    th
    -century table clocks, the gilt cases of which all have a cast representation of Orpheus charming the animals. In total 9 clocks of this type were traced, in various public and private collection: two each in Switzerland, England, and the U.S.A. one in Austria, one in Germany, and one is known only from an old photograph and may have disappeared after 1900. In the first part of the book Phillip G. Coole of the British Museum, London, gives a technical analysis of the highly important movements of these clocks, for the superb cases house some of the most amazing movements of the 16
