Description
AMC AJS or MATCHLESS BURMAN GB aka B52 4-SPEED TRANSMISSION, 99% COMPLETE with KICKSTART & GEARSHIFT PEDALS, in VERY GOOD condition. Inner cover is stamped "GB27" followed by the date code "K 53" which (I think) means it was manufactured in October of 1953, most likely 1954 model year. There are some other stampings on the inner cover - the number 929 inside a rectangular box, just below the date code stamping, and then 146 right below the GB27, there is another rectangular box stamping on the forward top face of the inner cover, with the number 944 and a similar rectangular box on the main gearbox shell with the number 937 inside. The main case and both cover castings are all in great shape, NO cracks or nasty dings. PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and LOOK CLOSELY AT ALL 24 PHOTOS!Matchless AJS BURMAN 4-SPEED GEARBOX

. Inner cover stamped "

and a similar rectangular box on the main gearbox shell with the number

The main case and both cover castings are all in great shape,
NO
cracks or nasty dings or gouges, just normal wear marks and for sure nothing that couldn't be cleaned up easily enough prior to polishing. Gear indicator & nut are missing, otherwise complete. Mainshaft has good threads & splines, spins smoothly, has normal end float and a few thousandths up & down movement, bearing is suspect but as with any gerabox of this vintage, you would want to strip it down for a thorough inspection and replace all bearings & bushing as a matter of course. 16-tooth sprocket shows wear, should be replaced.
Very HARD TO FIND a complete late model AMC/Burman gearbox in as good condition as this one! Will fit
ALL
AJS & Matchless heavyweight singles & twins from the early to mid-1950s...
