This super tuba has just been completely restored.
Featuring the original factory silver plate finish in good condition
so there will be some scratches and other imperfections, but this horn looks good and plays great.
This is the compensating 3 valve upright bell model.  It is a pro tuba in the best Besson tradition.
This a very nice playing professional model horn.
It takes a small European shank mouthpiece (included).  (smaller than standard American shank – also referred to as Eb shank)
With  the “Automatic Compensating System” extra tubing is automatically added to make intonation nearly perfect throughout the instrument’s range.
The biggest advantage is that the normally sharp 1 & 3 and 1, 2 & 3 valve combinations are perfectly in tune eliminating the need for the 4
th
valve on these notes.
THIS MODEL PLAYS JUST AS WELL IN TUNE AS THE 4 VALVE COMPENSATING VERSION WITHOUT THE ADDED WEIGHT OF THE 4TH VALVE TUBING.

My personal everyday player is almost identical to this great tuba
.  I play a similar vintage Besson euphonium and also played a Besson tuba in high school and college.
I liked the Besson tuba so much that I refused to use the college’s Miraphone tuba especially for solo work!
I was ready to “wimp out” and buy a 3/4 tuba for myself until I played this super tuba.  It takes less air than you might expect and weighs less than some full sized tubas, and of course the tone is far superior to any 3/4 tuba.

Serial number is 372175 which dates it to 1967.
Boosey & Hawkes produced some of its finest instruments in the 1960’s and 70’s and 80's including the Besson brand euphoniums.
This is not your typical used instrument.
It has been taken apart, most dents removed, then carefully reassembled.  It was then carefully polished and the original silver plate finish was preserved.  Since we were able to save to factory finish, the finish won't be perfect like a new finish, but it looks very good and really plays great!
The restoration was done by a respected local shop with over 40 years experience
in woodwind and brass instrument restorations and repairs.  Some of their employees worked at the H.N. White and King factories in Cleveland and Eastlake, Ohio.
One employee started working at the HN White Company in 1957!
I have personally used this company for over 10 years for my adult band members and myself.  I had this shop overhaul and silver plate my  “baby” – a 1971 Besson professional euphonium and for me that’s like trusting someone to operate on your kid.  (I’ve had the horn longer than my kids!)  It really looks great and actually plays better than when I bought it new in college.
